Before anyone even starts up the CAD program, basic market research is undertaken that is specific to each new client.

"The first thing we do is a market analysis," says Barrie Jones. "We find out about the competition. We study its strategy, looking to fill the voids."

Bringing together the aesthetics and functionality necessary to the clients' locations, as well as the requirements and interrelationships of all the equipment is what JFSE's experience and creativity does best.

For example, supermarket aisleways have to flow fluidly, with "no dead ends, sharp turns, bottlenecks or traffic jams," says Jones. At the same time, retailers know that shoppers want buying groceries to be a pleasant, relaxing experience with some excitement. Reconciling these two diametric goals, and keeping up their reputation for doing this successfully, as well as giving each customer a unique look, has brought out the best in creativity from the JFSE team.

Producing a layout that is functional, unique, attractive, affordable and user-friendly "can be like trying to put a size eight foot into a size six shoe." But JFSE does it.
